Thank you for the helpful feedback and the test trial as well to confirm, I'm still relatively new in the world of Pi/Linux, so any insights are appreciated.
I'm using a Debian Bullseye OS, and unfortunately getting HDMI output to play movies without framerate jitters has been the challenge. And since my DSI monitor and Pi are joined in a screwed shut case, there isn't much allowance for unplugging it casually without a Phillips head.
Regarding the video playback, my system was previously configured to work on a Raspberry Pi 3b+ running Debian Bullseye. I did initially use VLC on there, but the output was extremely varied and I played with a ton of settings to try and improve it, but it wouldn't work consistently. Some videos were fine, others were loading with weird color pixel glitches that would take 15-30 seconds to clear up, some would have crazy framerate stutters, this was all on the DSI not the HDMI.
After looking at alternatives, I tried MPV with the configs needed (vo=x11, hwdec=no) and it seems to work without issue, so it became my viewer by default. When I switched over to a Pi4, I found that all my settings still worked, so I haven't really experimented with VLC again. I also haven't played with Kodi, but from what I've read, it plays better with Libre-Elec, would it run on Debian Bullseye without many additional changes?
