Mounting anything in /Home/... shouldn't affect anything in a typical users /home directory.
Yes I know I'm raising a different issue but this is linux and case is important.
Anyway back to the point.
It shouldn't be a surprise, your mounted NAS superseded your home directory ergo all config settings were null and void. Note: the home directory was not overwritten, just invisible to typical file system operations.
